CHRISTMAS MARKETS: CONVENTION FOR NEXT FIVE YEARS SIGNED

The Verona Christmas event, which has so far registered 650,000 visitors with a weekly attendance of over 10,000 people (+20% compared to 2022), will remain in via Pallone for the next five years. The Municipality and Committee for Verona have signed the 2025-2029 convention, confirming the entrustment of the organization to the Committee, which has been managing the Markets since 2008.

The Councillor for Trade, Alessia Rotta, stressed that the move from the historic sites of the center to the area along the magistral walls, UNESCO heritage, was a successful experiment. The increase in visitors during the week allows a more balanced distribution of tourist flows, reducing the risks of overcrowding at weekends. However, some areas of improvement have been identified, such as decorations and light installations, for which a technical table will be convened in January, with the aim of defining a shared design by March. The new headquarters includes, in addition to via Pallone, the gardens of San Josemaria Escrivà De Balaguer, the parking lot in Piazzale Maestri del Commercio and piazza Sacco e Vanzetti. The Committee’s President, Luciano Corsi, highlighted how the event enjoyed strong approval from both visitors and operators. Although it is still too early to make a final judgement on the move, the Committee is focusing on resolving issues and implementing necessary improvements.

Roberto Bechis, president of Amia, said that despite the tight organisational time, managing waste collection was a virtuous example of teamwork. The aim for the next edition will be to achieve 99% of separate collection. The signing of the agreement was attended by the manager of the area Trade Mario Petrin, the president of Confesercenti Paolo Bissoli, the director Alessandro Torluccio and Paolo Caldana for Confcommer.
